Update from Murray Bridge
20 October 2004 Wednesday

13th October, Leaving Adelaide at 6.30 am, John and Ted were unable to use Highway 1 and had to divert over Mount Lofty, at times using the old Princes Highway which extended the normal trip of 68 kms to a grueling 97 kms, much of which was uphill. It turned out to be the most difficult day’s riding so far, taking 11 exhausting hours to reach the Long Island Marina Caravan Park in Murray Bridge.

On Thursday, Rotarian Gary Frazer’s Bus Service transported the boys to and from the Woodville Special School in Adelaide. The children were fascinated by the boys and their recumbent bikes and greeted them with great enthusiasm and many questions. Returning to camp they were welcomed by Kay and new support crew, Val and Mike (dubbed Mickey Backoff and crew, by John and Ted) . Ted and John are both looking tanned, trim and very fit and it didn’t take much encouragement to get them to join in the festivities when we all met.

On Friday we were all rewarded next day with a wonderful 40km cruise up the Murray River to Mannum on board Rotarian Brian Foster’s fabulous cruiser the “Galilee 1966”. We wish to thank in particular Rotarian Ron Lehmann and “Fabulous Phil” Rosewall for their untiring efforts to make us welcome.

Necessary replacements to worn tyres and drive chains will be made in the next two days. Ted and John will be attending the Rotary Club of Murray Bridge Meeting on Tuesday night before making an early start on Wednesday morning for the Rotary Club of Gambier via Meningie and Kingston.

Cheerio from John, Ted and all the crew
